KECOFATUMA MEMBER'S CORNER
Background
Action Times Family Care is a non- governmental organization founded in 2003 by a group of Christian friends whose mission is "Caring for the needy". The organization is registered with NGO Coordination Board, Kenya as an International non-governmental organization and operates in Lake Victoria region of Kenya.
In the past four years, the organization has had programmes on behavior change/ modification. In 2003, a Home Based Care (HBC) programme was introduced to cater for the needs of People Living with HIV/AIDS and their families. In the HBC programme 700 clients are registered for supportive services. The clients' records are confidentially kept and a YES CLUB is established to enhance exchange of ideas and information. Nutritional counseling and diet designing is also provided via the organization's nutritional support referral centre.
In 2004 a VCT centre was established. To date the centre has provided pre and post test counseling to over 3000 clients. Two more VCT centers are on pipeline, to avail the services to the rural community. The organization also offers mobile VCT services as part of her abstinence and behavioral change for the youth (ABY) project.
The organization is run by a Board. Day to day activities of the organization are run by the Management Committee. There are other Departmental Committees that oversee the implementation of various projects.
The organization is also supported by a team of dedicated volunteers.
