World AIDS Campaign International 38 Hout Street Cape Town, 8001 Tel: 021 487 3010 Press Release Africa plans on new continent - wide AIDS Campaign A unique meeting of key HIV and AIDS activists from around Africa opens in Nairobi, Kenya on Sunday 31 May at the Sarova Panafric Hotel at 2h30. Their aim is to produce a HIV campaigners road map to meet and navigate dramatic challenges. Top of their agenda are concerns that African governments will fail to deliver on their promises to deliver Universal Access to treatment, care and support to everyone with and effected by HIV and AIDS by the end of 2010. Increasing evidence of discrimination and stigma against people living with HIV and some groups most affected by HIV means that governments also need to ensure effective human rights protections. Over 60 participants from countries in East, West, Southern Africa and the Middle East, including leaders from key HIV NGO's will be at the meeting. They include networks of people living with HIV, Men having sex with men, Faith based organisations, youth, women and sex workers. The meeting will also look at the funding gap around HIV services and how best to challenge it.
